Raja of Perlis offers 50 scholarships for doctorate studies

KUALA PERLIS: The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail has awarded 50 royal scholarships to Malaysians pursuing their doctorate studies at Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM) this year.
Education Minister, Dr Maszlee Malik said for the purpose, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin had consented to the setting up of a Jamalullail Chair at UIAM.
“The ruler is offering the award for the first time, totalling RM5 million in support of efforts by the government and the ministry , especially to assist in the country’s education development,” he told reporters after an audience with Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin at Istana Arau on Sunday night.
Maszlee said UIAM and the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council would work together to determine the criteria for eligible candidates to apply for the scholarships.
He added that priority for the scholarships would be given to Perlis-born applicants in the B40 group. – Bernama
