Ramadan cheer for 100 needy families

BINTULU: More than 100 needy families from Kampung Baru Darat, Kampung Baru Tengah and Kampung Baru Laut here  received contributions for Ramadan from Padiberas Nasional Berhad (BERNAS) on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, 92 needy children from SK St Anthony and SK Kampung Baru were taken on a trip to shop for school bags, shoes and other things. They also received    “Duit Raya”(Raya cash).

Head of Beras Corporation Sdn. Bhd East Malaysia Operations (Sarawak), Khairul Anwar Pharo said the contribution of basic goods such as rice, flour, mini ketupat, sugar and “Kuih Raya” (Raya cakes) was one of the initiatives under the BERNAS’  corporate social responsibility programme called “Ikhlas BERNAS”.

“Interestingly this year, we  partner with Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Sarawak to make this programme a success   through RTM’s Ramadan Tour Programme,” he said.

Khairul disclosed this when speaking at a breaking of fast with the villagers at Surau Darussalam, Kampung Baru Darat here on Sunday night during the  “Ikhlas BERNAS” Programme with the Ramadan RTM Tour.

The breaking of fast event was graced by  the Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Intergrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Talib Zulpilip, Sarawak Broadcasting Deputy Director, Faridah Sulong and BERNAS’ Chief Executive Officer, Ismail Mohamed Yusoff.
