BETONG: The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Special Convention for Betong Zone is aimed at revitalising the spirit of its party members.

Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor said there are more pressing matters that need to be emphasised as Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is part of the unity government.

“So, one of the objectives is to reignite the spirit of PBB party members to continue supporting PBB and GPS,” she said when met at the venue of the convention’s preparations at Dewan Sukan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan here, yesterday.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the convention’s organising chairman, was present to inspect the preparations for the event.

Touching on PBB youth involvement under Lingga constituency, Noorazah said the convention will be a platform for them to get their first-hand experience to learn about the party’s struggle in addition to the efforts made by the Sarawak government in developing the state and its people.

“There is some difficulty in encouraging youth aged 18 to 28 to join but they can be nurtured with the spirit of the party’s struggle and issues related to state development.

“For example, in Lingga constituency, I encourage the youth to participate in various activities organised by PBB so that they do not feel left behind and are equally involved in the development of Sarawak,” she said.

She added that 20 youths from the respective 14 PBB branches will also attend the special convention.

The convention this Sunday (Oct 8) will see 1,500 delegates from 14 PBB branches participating namely Sebuyau, Lingga, Beting Maro, Balai Ringin, Bukit Begunan, Simunjan, Engkilili, Batang Ai, Saribas, Layar, Bukit Saban, Kalaka, Krian and Kabong.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will officiate at the convention.

Also present to oversee the preparations for the convention were Deputy Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Razi Sitam, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri and Betong MP Dr Richard Rapu.
