RM2.5 million in contraband seizure since January

KUCHING: Nineteen cases involving seizures totalling RM2.5 million statewide were recorded by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) since Jan 1 until March.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) Deputy Director of Enforcement Operations Low Swee Hon said seizures of sugar, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) saw compounds worth RM26,000 issued.

“For Kuching, the ministry had one case involving the arrest of four foreigners at Sematan and the seizure of sugar worth RM35,000 and compounds of RM20,000 issued,” she said at a press conference on Subsidised Goods Leakage at KDPNHEP Sarawak office yesterday.

Low also added that in Miri alone, the ministry recorded one case involving of two arrests a seizure of diesel worth RM72,000.

“On 9 March, a case happened in Bintulu involving diesel seizure worth RM97,200, while on March 3 in Sibu diesel worth RM69,000 was also seized,” she stated.
