RM68,000 for fire victim to rebuild house

OYA: A fire victim of Kampung Bakong here, Hasnah Bt Mahmud, will be given assistance of RM68,000 to rebuild her house which was destroyed by fire recently.

The good news was announced by Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development, Datuk Hajah Fatimah Abdullah during a visit to the fire victim last Sunday afternoon.

“The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development has approved the RM68,000 assistance  to rebuilt the house,” Fatimah said.

A wooden house belonging to the 60- year-old widow (Hasnah) who lives together with her two children and seven grandchildren was destroyed by fire, recently.

It is learnt that Hasnah’s eldest daughter, a single mother has four children. She works at a food outlet earning RM1,000 a month while Hasnah’s son, Fazri, 32, also a single father with three children earns RM900 a month as a lorry driver.

At present they are putting up in their neighbour’s house about 100 metres away from their burnt house. During the visit Fatimah also presented RM9,200 from the Welfare Department for the children school uniforms (RM800), pocket money (RM1,000), daily clothing (RM2,000), school bags and equipment (RM400), and RM5,000 for building materials.

Fatimah was accompanied by Dalat District Officer, Kueh Lei Poh, Mukah Division Welfare Officer, Aziah Bt Seruji, and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Dalat Branch Women’s  chief, Hatiah Narawi.

Since the fire tragedy, the victims have received immediate aids from the Welfare Department such as food, kitchen equipment and other essentials.
