KUCHING: Road users have been reminded to drive and ride cautiously, especially during the ongoing festive season to avoid road fatalities.

Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin advised motorists to take precautions and drive safely as accidents are bound to happen during this period.

“Therefore, please drive slowly and cautiously. Plus, now is the rainy season, please drive safely as the road can get slippery.

“We want everyone to celebrate their festivals in a safe manner and with joy,” he said at a Christmas open house recently.

On another note, Lee, who is also the Senadin assemblyman, hoped that the concept of open house and visiting traditions during festivals continues to be practised in Sarawak.

“We can see people of different races and religions will visit their friends and families who celebrates other festivals such as Christmas, Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Gawai and even Deepavali.

“This has become a tradition in Sarawak and it must not be ignored. Although, now we are in the era of technology, such a tradition of having an open house and visiting must be preserved,” he said.

Lee said that paying visits during festive open houses could strengthen the bond as well as foster closer relationships with one another.
