IPOH: For Ryoga Kho, his journey to the championship title of the TennisMalaysia Junior 2024 Leg 1 is not without its moment of uncertainty.

The 12-year old prodigy from SJKC Stampin Kuching said he almost had to forfeit or give a walkover in his doubles match due to the pressing need to catch a flight on time.

Despite all that, his path to victory was not merely a display of his-on-court prowess but an evidence of daily hard work daily.

The tournament held in Ipoh, Perak from Jan 31 to Feb 4, Ryoga secured a resounding win with a scoreline of 6-0, 6-1 against Penang’s Ong Then Kuan in the singles final, while in the doubles category, Ryoga and his partner Oezil Najib from Kuala Lumpur triumphed over Azizul Ashman (Negeri Sembilan) and Eli Eita Hilton (Sarawak), finishing with a tight score of 4-1, 5-4 (7-3).

On another note, Fazwil Abdul Wahid who is the president of Perak Lawn Tennis Association, said Rygo’s coach emphasised the vital role of active support from sports associations, without creating unnecessary obstacles for young talents.

“The consistent call for support over the years, addressing critical aspects such as properly defined junior development, financial backing, and strategic planning, remains a pressing need,” he said in a statement.

He said Rygoa as a dedicated player consistently competing in national-level tournaments, showcased extraordinary dedication by travelling all the way from Sarawak to join wherever junior leg tournaments are organised.

“His journey underscores the importance of perseverance, family support, and dedicated coaching.

“The hope is for increase support and recognition for Sarawakians athletes like Ryoga, not only for the glory they bring to the state but as beacons inspiring others to strive for excellence,” he added.
