KUCHING: The Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) welcomes all individuals into the fold, be it members of the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) parties or opposition parties.

SABERKAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the organisation does not hesitate to welcome even those who have previously contested against the office bearers during the recent Triennial General Meeting (TGM).

He said SABERKAS is a platform to cultivate new leadership for Sarawak, where individuals from diverse ethnic backgrounds, nationalities, and religions come together to nurture the youth and propel Sarawak’s future advancement.

“Now we can see that no ethnic group is left out of holding positions in the SABERKAS supreme committee.

“This shows the interest of all youth leaders in Sarawak in SABERKAS is very high, and this is what gives us pride, and besides that, the involvement in terms of ethnicity such as Dayak, Chinese, Malay, and other ethnic groups is very significant,” he said.

He said this after chairing the 57th Supreme Committee Meeting held at the Hilton Hotel today (Feb 8).

Abdul Karim said SABERKAS is unique compared to in Malaysia as it ensures a balance of experience and fresh perspectives by mandating that 70 percent of its committee members be under the age of 39, with the remaining 30 percent having the flexibility to be over 39 years old.

“Furthermore, discussions were held regarding the establishment of nine small committees, covering various aspects such as finance, asset management, administration, recreational sports, entrepreneurship, training, agriculture, science, technology, women’s affairs, and social welfare.

“I myself am amazed by the ability and what has been accomplished by the small committees over the past three years. Last year, when we held our TGM, and for the past year, the number of activities held was over 700 programmes,” he said.
