KUCHING: The Sarawak government continues to focus heavily on road user safety, particularly for those travelling along the Pan Borneo Highway during the festive seasons.

According to Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, the Public Works Department (JKR) and contractors had done many repairs along the route, which was still under construction.

He added that the government has boosted safety campaigns and traffic police and JPJ enforcement operations across the state, performed technical research on road conditions as well as strived to provide safety education in primary and secondary schools.

“Due to movement control orders, road safety campaigns in Kuching have been unable to be implemented for the past two years.

“Since we’ve entered the endemic phase, such safety efforts will need to be ramped up from time to time.

“The current campaigns are not intended to inconvenience road users, but rather to remind them of the significance of adhering to the rules of the road,” he explained.

He said this at the road safety campaign in conjunction with the Kuching-Level Gawai Dayak Festival 2022 at the Petros Darul Hana here today.

During the event, Dr Jerip also distributed goodies bags to visitors at the petrol station.
