SARATOK: The district will be hosting the Sarawak Silat Gayong Martial Arts Invitational Tournament this November.

Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri has expressed his full support for the initiative of the Sarawak Seni Silat Gayong Association Betong Branch, aimed at promoting the traditional martial arts to the community.

He expressed his welcome and happiness towards the tournament, particularly due to the increased interest in silat it will generate among young people in Betong and Saratok.

“On the proposed date, which is November 11 and 12, silat martial artists from all over Sarawak will come together,” he added.

The tournament will be held in collaboration with the Saratok District Office and Kalaka service centre to ensure its smooth running, as it is the first time it will be held in this location.

Mohamad expressed his commitment to promoting and preserving the legacy of silat martial arts among young people.

“I believe this kind of programme can prevent the youth from falling into immoral activities,” he said this after representatives from the Sarawak Seni Silat Gayong Association Betong Branch, Azizan Jama’at@Jamain, visited him at the Kalaka service centre yesterday.
