Sarawak free of clusters

KUCHING: The Besi Cluster here has officially ended today (Dec 19) after no new Covid-19 cases were reported within 28 days from the last detected case.

The last case was reported on Nov 20 involving Case 1,055 who is a local civil servant and a colleague to a positive case reported on Dec 19.

A total of 322 people were screened in relation to this cluster but only 12 were reported to be positive.

“With that, there are no more active clusters in the state,” said Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement.

The Besi Cluster was first declared on Nov 18 in the Demak Laut and Batu Lintang areas in Kuching district.

The case index for the cluster was Case 1,040 who was identified after a symptomatic individual screening on Nov 15.

Sibu and Serian are yellow zones at present with three cases of local infections reported in the last 14 days.
