KUCHING: The Sarawak government has emerged as the top revenue earner among all states in Malaysia, generating a staggering RM12 billion in the previous year.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas revealed this significant achievement during a recent national meeting on finance, where Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and himself were informed of the state’s remarkable income.

In light of this accomplishment, the Second Finance Minister and New Economy Minister urged the people of Sarawak to collaborate closely with the state authorities to propel Sarawak towards high-income status by 2030.

“We are fortunate to have a visionary leader who prioritises the welfare of the people and possesses the foresight, courage, and wisdom to secure substantial income for Sarawak. This achievement did not come by chance but through the exceptional capabilities and strategies employed by our leaders,” affirmed Uggah.

The deputy premier said this during his address at the prestigious ‘Gawai Mantar’ 2023 ceremony held at the Spaoh Sports Complex in Betong this evening.

Furthermore, Uggah, who also serves as the Bukit Saban assemblyman, called for cooperation among the longhouse residents in the area to establish Spaoh District as a prominent hub for the production of sewing materials, embroidery, and other diversified products.

“We have already distributed 7,000 hybrid chickens, out of which 5,000 have been successfully sold. Considering the abundance of pepper and palm oil plantations in this area, our objective is to introduce a new income stream for the Bukit Saban area,” Uggah added.
