KUCHING: Sarawak police will seek Bukit Aman police headquarters’ assistance to identify drug syndicates in the state and in Indonesia.

This is in relation to the recent drug seizure worth RM720,480 in Sungai Paoh, Serian on Dec 26, where three men were found to be smuggling drugs into Indonesia.

Sarawak Deputy Commissioner of Police Datuk Fisol Salleh said the General Operations Force (GOF) arrested an Indonesian man while two others managed to escape.

“With the drugs, comprising syabu and Ecstasy pills, we believe that this syndicate is bringing them (drugs) to supply the users in Indonesia.

“Such drugs are very expensive as it is valued nearly RM40,000 to RM50,000 per kilogramme, whereas, the price (for the drugs) over there (Indonesia) is doubled.

“Hence, we will gather information to find the syndicate responsible for this matter.

“That is why we are requesting Bukit Aman’s assistance to identify drug syndicates, whether they are in Sarawak or Indonesia,” he said in a press conference at the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) today.

Based on information, the syndicate has been operating for at least two to three months.

He said they are currently investigating the source of the (drug) supply, whether it was delivered via courier service from Peninsula or not, just like the recent drug bust involving RM10,397 worth of marijuana.

“We are also investigating whether it (the syndicate arrested in Serian) is using the same modus operandi or not — supply arrives via courier service and the syndicate collects and delivers it to Indonesia,” he said.

When asked on the two escapees, he said that they are still tracking them and investigating whether they have left the state or not.

Fisol added that the police will be more focused on border areas where the issues are not just the illegal entry of undocumented immigrants but also drug smuggling.

Also present at the press conference were Sarawak GOF Brigade Commander SAC Mancha Ata and Sarawak Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) chief ACP Jasmirol Jamaluddin.
