KUCHING: The federal Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) and its Sarawak counterpart will organise two events here.
Federal minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the first event would be held on Oct 22 while the second would be held in the second week of December.
“The first event is the ‘Meet in Malaysia’ ceremony, which will be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, as a start for us to hold events again in Sarawak after postponing many due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Among the contents of this event; we will interact with players in the tourism industry and event management companies as well as inviting Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Idris Jala as the speaker.”
She said this at a press conference on Monday (Oct 18) after a courtesy call on Abang Johari.
Nancy elaborated that the second event—Citrawarna Malaysia—would be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Meanwhile, her Sarawak counterpart Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah expressed his gratitude to the federal ministry for choosing Sarawak to host Citrawarna Malaysia.
“Citrawarna Malaysia will be held at the Kuching Waterfront, and we hope that this event can bring a bit of cheer to Sarawakians, especially as many industries and sectors have started to open after being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Both ministers emphasised that Covid-19 prevention standard operating procedures would be strictly observed for the events.
Nancy also received a courtesy call from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, and she was briefed on the agency’s role in assisting the ministries in the country’s tourism sector.
