SARIKEI: The search for an Indonesian man feared drowned at Muara Payang here has entered day two today.

The operations centre of the State Fire and Rescue Department said the search continued at 6.45am within a 2-km radius from where the victim was believed to have gone missing.

The search-and-rescue (SAR) team that involved firefighters and the Civil Defence Force (APM) carried out the surface searching operation to locate the man.

On Sunday, two locals along with the victim, identified as Heriayansyah, 25, were in a boat heading towards Muara Payang.

Around 5pm, the boat overturned after it was hit by a wave caused by a passing ship.

The locals, who clung to an oil tank, were saved by a fisherman who happened to be nearby during the incident. The man, who worked as an electrician in Sibu, was nowhere to be seen.

As at press time, the search is still ongoing and the victim has yet to be found.
