Sebuyau Agro Research Lab on coconuts

SEBUYAU:  A site near Kampung Menek Sebangan has been proposed for the establishment of an Agro Research Lab in Sebuyau.

Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) reported that this is a follow-up to the second meeting of the Agro Research Lab Steering Committee which was chaired by Utilities and Telecommunications Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawai at the Sebuyau District Office on Wednesday.

For the record, the centre is proposed to carry out research related to coconut trees.

Meanwhile, the Samarahan Resident’s Office and the Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA) have been appointed as the secretariat for the research while  Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) has been given the main responsibility to bring the centre to life.

In addition, Sarawak’s Economic Planning Unit (EPU), Swinburne University, Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), Department of Agriculture and Department of Land and Survey as committee members will also play an important role in the implementation of the project.

The Sebuyau assemblyman alongside other committee representatives also conducted a visit to the proposed site.

Also present in the meeting were Samarahan Resident Brahim Lumpu; Unimas Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit; Acting Sebuyau District Officer Jerry Zannudin Bidin; Tahid Mohd Sharee from EPU and representatives of other agencies involved.
