KUCHING: The second phase of the Malaysian Population and Housing Census 2020 (Census of Malaysia 2020) in Sarawak which involves targeted groundwork will be carried out from this month until May.

State Malaysian Statistics Department director Dayang Rozana Abang Hassan said the census will be done in compliance with the pandemic standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“In green or yellow zones, the census will be done face-to-face, while e-Census and questionnaire distribution will be done via ‘drop-off and pick-up’ (DOPU) methods.

“Face-to-face interviews will observe physical distancing, the use of face masks and to be as brief as possible.

“In orange and red zones, the census will be done through ‘computer-assisted telephone interviewing’ (CATI), e-Census and DOPU,” she said in a statement yesterday (March 12).

However, in support of efforts to curb and break the chain of Covid-19 infection, the department prefers online census (e-Census).

“Based on the responses received until March 10, 11.4 million people nationwide or 34.9 percent of the total population of 32.7 million last year had completed the e-Census.
