THE settlement area in Ng Singat and Sungai Lengan which is separated by a river in Daro is in dire need of a road and bridge.

Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad said the infrastructure is needed as there are 10 longhouses and national schools in the area.

He added that the road connectivity will also help increase economic activity and facilitate the community in the area.

“It is needed to market their agricultural products to the city as well as to making it easier for their children to go or return from school.

“All this time, they have been fully dependent on a rather dangerous river transport,” he said in his debate on the motion thanks to the Head of State’s address on the third day of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting Wednesday.

Safiee also wanted to know the status of the 11.16km road construction project at Rh. Jingga/David Multifarm/Rh. Seli/Rh. Guang/SK Singat, Sg. Lengan, Sibu.

He also queried the status of the bridge that had been approved under the Ministry of Rural Development previously where the Drainage and Irrigation Department was the implementing agency.

“Approximately when will it be tendered and the works expected to start?” he asked.

At the same time, Safiee requested that the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB)  supply clean water to these areas including to the agriculture stations and the national school.

“Although they are connected through the road which is only a few kilometres from Sibu town, they still depend on rain or river water for daily use and this is often affected during the dry season,” he said.
