Seven new Covid-19 clusters recorded in Kuching

KUCHING: The State Health Department has declared seven new Covid-19 clusters, comprising mostly community clusters in Kuching on Wednesday (Aug 4).

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the Kampung Bintawa Tengah cluster involved a village under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in Petra Jaya.

It involved 61 people, and out of these, 30 tested positive for Covid-19, including the index case, whereas 31 tested negative. The cluster also recorded three new cases today.

The Kampung Benuk cluster also involved a village under EMCO at Jalan Puncak Borneo, involving a total of 181 people.

From the cluster, 46 people including the index case tested positive for the virus, 126 tested negative and nine are still waiting for the test results, while two more cases were recorded today.

The Kampung Haji Baki cluster also involved a village under EMCO at Jalan Pekan Batu Kitang with 111 people involved.

SDMC said, out of the total 16 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19 and 78 tested negative. Another 17 people are waiting for the test results. The cluster recorded six new cases today.

“Meanwhile, there are a total of 26 people from the Kampung Semban cluster involving a village in Bengoh area at Padawan sub-district.

Out of the 26 people, 23 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19 and the other three persons tested negative for the virus,” it said.

Kampung Bintawa Hilir cluster involved a few families in the village under EMCO in Petra Jaya.

SDMC said a total of 223 people were involved, with 159 of them including the index case tested positive for Covid-19 and 64 tested negative, while 24 new cases were recorded today.

“The Kampung Jawa cluster involved a few families in a village also under EMCO at Batu 12, Jalan Kuching-Serian, involving 104 people.

“Out of the 104 persons, 47 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19, 56 tested negative and one is still waiting for the test result,” it said.

The Jalan Airport cluster is the only workplace cluster involving workers in a hotel at Jalan Airport.

“From the cluster, there are 100 people involved with 12 of them including the index cases tested positive, 70 tested negative and 18 still waiting for the test results,” said the statement.

SDMC said all positive cases have been admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk treatment centre (PKRC) in Kuching for isolation and treatment.

There are still 89 active clusters, with10 recording 117 new additional cases. The other 79 clusters recorded no new additional cases.

On another matter, the district of Sri Aman has changed status from yellow to red after it recorded 56 local infection cases in the past 14 days. This increases the number of red status districts to 18.

As for Julau, the district turned from green to yellow after it recorded five local infection cases, which decreases the number of green districts to five.

Orange and yellow district status remained the same with eight and nine districts respectively.
