KUCHING: A total of 200 school bags were presented to seven schools under Santubong parliamentary by Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar held at Santubong Parliamentary Service Centre in Jalan Kulas here yesterday. The seven schools were Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bako, SK Beradek, SK Tanjung Bako, SK Rambungan, SK Siar Campuran, SK Sebat, and SK Telok Melano.

Earlier in a press conference, Wan Junaidi stated the government has decided to empower English Language in schools together with Bahasa Melayu learning.

“English Language is a language that is spoken mostly in the world especially in the developed countries. For example, in China, when the ministry made a research, we (the ministry) found out that there are a great number of universities in China focusing on English Language.

“Therefore, we in Malaysia should not be left behind in empowering English Language because English is very important in order to interact with people outside of Malaysia, as well as in education and trading industry,” he pointed out.

At the same time, he added, the government also emphasised on Bahasa Melayu, the national language that should be well spoken and known by all Malaysians.

“It will be very sad if we Malaysians do not know how to converse in our own national language. If our Malaysian students can learn additional languages such as Chinese language, it will be an additional advantage because our interaction with China is very large nowadays,” stressed Wan Junaidi.
