BETONG: A double storey shop named Kukki Household Centre selling household items at the old town here was razed by fire early yesterday morning.

According to Betong Head of Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA), Vincent Baling Yabi they received a distress call from a man identified as Chua Lak Jian who rented a shop nearby about the fire at 2.40am.

“When firefighters arrived at the location, the building was still ablaze so they immediately tried to douse the fire,” Vincent told reporters yesterday.

Betong Bomba Auxiliary Team was also dispatched to the location to assist.

“It took the firefighters 40 minutes to completely douse the fire and prevented it from spreading. There were no workers in the shop and we are still ascertaining the cause of the fire and the loss incurred,” he said, adding that the operation which involved 10 firefighters led by PBK I Henry Jugah and seven members of the Betong Bomba Auxiliary Team concluded at 4 am.
