Six business premises receive Fair Price Award Shop Awards

MUKAH: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumers Affairs Mukah Branch presented the Fair Price Award Shop Awards 2021 to six business premises here which offered goods at reasonable prices.

The recipients in the stationery/bookstore category were A1 Stationery and Chai Guan Stationery & Sport Equipment Company.

In the clothing category, the recipients were Everwin Deparmental Store, Gafu Supermarket Sdn Bhd, Medan Department Store Sdn Bhd and Nam Leong Departmental Store (Mukah) Sdn Bhd which also received the award for mini market category.

The recipients in the supermarket category were Everwin Supermarket, Gafu Supermarket Sdn Bhd and Medan Departmental Store Sdn Bhd.

Acting Mukah Division Resident Shafrie Saili, said the objectives of the award were to help consumers identify reasonable price shops and to appreciate business premises for offering goods at reasonable prices and for being competitive.

“It is also to encourage fairer price shops,” he said when officiating at the event at the ministry’s office here on Monday (Oct 25).

The ministry’s branch head Salihin Den was also present.

According to Shafrie, the nominees for fair price shop cover eight categories — retail, mini market, supermarket, hypermarket, food stall, eatery, bookstore/stationery and clothing.

He added the criteria for assessing the nominees were based on two major aspects –- prices of goods and  the environment which covered display of goods, quality of service, price and menu variation, rating and grading by the local council.

Shafrie added consumers could use the Price Catcher app to get information on prices of goods sold at local business premises and plan their expenditures by choosing shops that offered fair prices.
