KUCHING: The Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) is committed to increasing public understanding of the state government’s digital economy policy.

Its general manager, Datuk Dr. Anderson Tiong Ing Heng, said that the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030, recently launched by the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the International Conference on the Sarawak Digital Economy (IDECS), has identified five main areas to guide the state’s digital future by 2030.

These five areas focus on economic growth, business development, public sector services, embracing new technology, and the digital economy policy.

“The main challenge that needs to be overcome in ensuring that the digital economy agenda can be realised is changing the public’s mindset regarding the response to changes in government policy.

“Therefore, SMA will continue to actively carry out an awareness campaign so that the community understands our role in accelerating the digital economy policy in Sarawak,” Dr Tiong said during a meeting with Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and his delegation at the SMA headquarters here recently.

Chow, having listened to the briefing, asked about an app developed by SMA and if it truly makes daily life easier for the people.

In a related event, Chow visited the SMA digital gallery, where he enjoyed a virtual game of ping pong with Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting.
