MIRI: Around 100 army personnel from the 20th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD) at Camp Sri Miri, alongside staff from the Miri Parliamentary Service Centre, dedicated their Sunday (Feb 25) to a community project aimed at clearing trash and environmental pollutants along the coastline of Kampung Pulau Melayu.
The cleanup initiative was a joint effort between the Miri Parliamentary Service Centre and Camp Sri Miri, with Miri MP Chiew Choon Man also in attendance.
After the event, Chiew commended Camp Sri Miri for their collaborative spirit and active involvement in the programme, contributing manpower to the cleanup effort.
“Beach cleaning is a crucial aspect of maintaining the health and beauty of our coastal environments. The accumulation of litter and debris not only detracts from the natural aesthetics of the beach but also poses serious risks to marine life and ecosystems,” he said.
“By regularly organising beach cleanup efforts, we can mitigate these dangers and ensure a safe and clean environment for both humans and wildlife.”
Chiew added that such programmes play a significant role in promoting awareness and education about the importance of proper waste disposal, contributing to the prevention of further pollution of beaches.
“It is imperative that we take responsibility for the cleanliness of our beaches to preserve them for future generations to enjoy.”
