Solution to erosion near chapel underway

KUCHING: Soil erosion that has affected St Nicholas’ Chapel in Bandar Baru Semariang will be addressed soon.

Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi has given the assurance that he will continue to work along with Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) and Public Works Department (JKR) Kuching in assisting with the problem.

“I received a complaint from the chairman of the chapel committee, Enghacok Siong, regarding the soil erosion occurring at Sungai Loba Kara nearby.

“I have approached DID in January to view the situation and they have been working on it. They will propose on what is the best method to overcome the problem,” he said today.

Dr Abdul Rahman said that he had met with Enghacok and also the chapel’s committee members on Thursday together with DID and JKR Kuching division officers.

He stated that the DID officers had explained to the committee on what would be done to solve the problem.

“I have seen that the erosion is getting more severe and has affected the sidewalk and part of the fencing system as well as the appearance of the chapel.

“We hope that something can be done as soon as possible,” he added.
