SARIKEI: The Sarawak government has allocated a special fund to help the management of Downtown Taman Selera Baji Jaya here.
According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, Tanjong Manis assemblyman Yusuf Abdul Wahab said the Tanjong Manis Service Centre would pay 40 per cent of the cost of every canopy while the rest of the amount would be borne by the hawkers.
“This is one of the steps taken by the management in collaboration with the service centre to ease the burden of hawkers, who suffered damage to their canopies due to the inclement weather,” he explained.
Yusuf visited Downtown Taman Selera Baji Jaya recently to see for himself the issues faced by the hawkers. Among them, stagnant water during rain, covered pedestrian walkways and other basic facilities.
