KUCHING: Issues pertaining to Petronas’ outstanding payment of the state sales tax (SST) amounting to more than RM2 billion are expected to be settled soon.

Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Assistant Minister, Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, said the long-awaited payment would be realised soon after the computation has been completed.

“The wait won’t be much longer. They will pay. But we need to calculate the exact and final total payment including the penalty and interest. That’s why the payment process took some time,” she told reporters after officiating at the completion of upgrading works at Surau Darul Nur Dini in Kampung Sungai Midin here on Sunday (Sept 13).

On the total amount, the Samariang assemblywoman said she was not sure of the exact figure.

Last Saturday (Sept 12), Senior Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof revealed that the third meeting of the committee set up to find commercial solutions for Sarawak’s petroleum sales tax claim will be held here on Sept 17.
