KUCHING: Sarawak is in a better position to implement many projects, thereby minimising unnecessary wastage with first-hand knowledge about the needs of its people.

In commending the federal government’s effort which has agreed in principle to return the health and education autonomy to Sarawak, political analyst Dr Gregory Hii said the main focus is to provide efficient and accessible healthcare services to all Sarawakians.

“This also includes upgrading of facilities already provided in the main hospitals in urban and semi-urban centres.

“In terms of education, the Sarawak government must continue with the push to achieve bilingualism of Sarawakians, especially in English.

“This is to make sure that they can take advantage of the Western technology to help develop Sarawak into the most developed region in Malaysia to be at par with Singapore, for instance,” he told New Sarawak Tribune, yesterday.

Hii was commenting on the returned autonomy in education and health to Sarawak as mentioned by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Fadillah said this is part of the move to further strengthen Sarawak’s rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and details on the matter are being worked out.
