State records 3,200 new cases, seven deaths

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 3,200 new Covid-19 cases today (Sept 7), 514 fewer cases compared to the previous day (3,714 cases), and seven fatalities.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 3,192 or 99.75 percent of the new cases comprised Categories 1 and 2 while there were eight cases in Category 5.

The Kuching district accounted for the highest number of cases yet again at 805; followed by Serian (630); Sibu (271); Bintulu (211); Samarahan (126); Belaga (123); Betong 119); Saratok (112); Tebedu (94); Tatau (93); Pusa (80); Miri (63); Pakan (57); Selangau (41); Lubok Antu (38); Kapit (36); Song (34); Bau (33); Asajaya (32); Limbang (31); Mukah and Subis (27 each).

Twenty-six positive cases were recorded in Sarikei; 20 in Simunjan; 14 in Sri Aman; 13 each in Beluru and Sebauh; seven in Kanowit; six in Meradong and four each in Lundu and Matu. 

Two cases each were recorded in Julau, Kabong, Lawas, Bukit Mabong respectively while one case each was recorded in Tanjung Manis and Dalat.

With this, the state has 137,812 cumulative Covid-19 positive cases so far.

Of the new cases, 2,110 were individuals who had close contacts with positive cases, 404 were individuals in existing clusters, 254 were from the screening of symptomatic individuals at health facilities and 426 from other screenings at health facilities. Six were Import B cases; four were individuals returning from Sabah and two were individuals returning from Melaka.

The SDMC said there were 1,626 new recoveries who were discharged from hospitals and low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs) statewide.

This brings the number of recovered and discharged cases to 103,957 or 75.43 percent of the total number of cases in Sarawak. There are still 33,049 active cases.

Meanwhile, the seven fatalities recorded today involved locals from the Pusa, Bau, Serian, Sebauh, Simunjan and Pakan districts.

The 577th death was of an 81-year-old local woman from Pusa who was brought in dead (BID) to Pusa Health Clinic. She tested positive on Aug 21 and had a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, and dyslipidaemia.

The 578th death was of a 70-year-old local man from Pusa who was also BID as well. He tested positive on Aug 23 and had a history of high blood pressure and heart disease.

Meanwhile, the 579th death involved a disabled local woman from Bau who was BID to Hospital Bau. She tested positive on Sept 4.

The 580th death was of a 63-year-old local man from Serian who tested positive on Sept 5. He was admitted to the Serian Hospital and had a history of heart disease, chronic lung disease and liver disease.

The 581st death was of a 72-year-old local woman from Sebauh who tested positive on Aug 20. She was admitted to the Bintulu Hospital and had a history of high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney disease.

The 582nd death involved a 76-year-old local man from Simunjan who tested positive on Aug 30. He was admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital and had a history of high blood pressure.

The 583rd death was of a 79-year-old local man from Pakan who was admitted to the Sarikei Hospital. He tested positive on Aug 30.
