State records four fatalities

KUCHING: Sarawak now has a total of 48 deaths after recording four fatalities from Sibu today.

Today’s first fatal case was a sixty-year-old man who was case 5,094. He received emergency treatment in Sibu Hospital on Feb 3 due to symptoms such as shortness of breath, cough, fever and running nose since Jan 28.

“The deceased was admitted to Sibu Hospital and was found positive for Covid-19 after his screening test on the day itself.

“His health deteriorated and was pronounced dead on Feb 3. He has comorbid chronic kidney problems, high blood pressure, gout, and dyslipidemia,” said Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

Meanwhile, the second fatality was case 4,031 involving a 95-year-old local man who was admitted to Sibu Hospital after his rT-PCR test screening came back positive for Covid-19 on Jan 28.

“The deceased health deteriorated and was pronounced dead on Feb 4,” the committee said.

The third fatality was case 3,713 involving an 82-year-old man who was admitted to Sibu Hospital due to fever.

“His rT-PCR test screening was conducted on Jan 26. His health deteriorated and was pronounced dead on Feb 4.

“The deceased have comorbid high blood pressure and stroke,” SDMC added.

It said the fourth fatality was case 4,920, a 79-year-old man who was admitted to Sibu Hospital after his second rT-PCR test screening for close contact screening came back positive on Feb 3.

“His health deteriorated and was pronounced dead on Feb 5. He has comorbid diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic kidney problems as well as stroke,” said the statement.

SDMC has extended its condolences to the family members of the victims.
