MIRI: Suarah Petroleum Group (SPG) held its fifth annual general meeting (AGM) today at Grand Palace Hotel here.

The AGM was also telecasted via Zoom to enable members from outside Miri to participate.

An election of new board members for the 2020/2021 period was held and Abang Iskandar Abang Muas was elected as president.

Hamim Yusof was elected as deputy president while Yusuf Abdul Rahman as secretary.

Ryan Ng remained as the treasurer while Boniface Bait, Mark Chella, Maharon Jadid, Dr Abang Hatta Abang Taha, Dr Abdul Kuddus Haji Ramli, Umar Nor, Hellen Gumek and Omarali Matjais were elected as board members.

SPG was formed and launched in 2015, which consists of Sarawakian former chief executive officers (CEOs), engineers, lawyers, consultants, human capital/talent specialists, entrepreneurs, contractors and professional service providers who are involved in the oil and gas industry.

SPG provides independent advisory services with the philosophy of working with national and state policy makers, regulators, industry players and others to promote a healthy and equitable national oil and gas (O&G) ecosystem which will promote the best utilisation and value creation from Sarawak’s O&G resources.

On the same day following the AGM, an open forum entitled ‘Prospectivity of Onshore Sarawak O&G Resources’ was held at the same venue and over 80 participants attended, online and physically.

Dr Ziad Bennour of Miri Curtin University presented his paper on ‘Geological attributes of Sarawak Oil & Gas prospects’ while Dr Mahmood Bataee, also from Curtin University, shared a paper on ‘Challenges of onshore Oil & Gas exploration and production particularly onshore Sarawak’.
