KUCHING: Sarawak police seized RM1.8 million worth of methamphetamine in the state’s biggest drug bust this year.

Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department cops raided an apartment in Batu Kawa yesterday (May 18) at 1.30 am and arrested an 18-year-old local man.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said 52,516 grammes of methamphetamine in packages were seized.

“The drugs were placed into packages of some food brands. All in all, the drugs seized are worth RM1,890,576.

“A vehicle valued at RM40,000 was also seized by the raiding team under Section 25 of the Dangerous Drugs Act (Forfeiture) 1988,” he told a media conference at the Sarawak Police Contingent headquarters this morning.

The suspect is unemployed and does not have any prior criminal records. His urine test also came up negative for drugs.

“The suspect was found to have involved in drug distribution since April this year. The modus operandi is that the drugs are sent through courier services by a drug syndicate from West Malaysia.
