KUCHING: It can be a bit difficult to maintain social distancing, especially when buying groceries at the supermarket during the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, some shoppers have found a comical way of protecting themselves from catching the deadly virus.

This time, not just by putting on face masks or gloves, but a dinosaur costume!

A ‘Tyrannosaurus rex’ (T-Rex) was spotted at the New World Mart supermarket in Lutong, Miri on Wednesday.

The individual was dressed up in an orange inflatable dinosaur costume.

It caught the attention of many, and videos and photos of the ‘T-Rex’ have gone viral on social media, bringing some much-needed cheer during this stressful time.

New Sarawak Tribune managed to locate the ‘T-Rex’ on Facebook and Instagram, Saiful Rizal Alias.

Saiful, 37, an offshore abseiler supervisor when contacted, said he ordered the costume online after the first announcement of the movement control order (MCO) by the government.

“It has been a long time I admired the T-Rex costume, because it looks too cute … So I think this will be the perfect time to wear it, it is a safe and funny protective suit,” he said.

Even staff of the supermarket saw the funny side to it and took a moment to snap a photo with the ‘T-Rex’.

According to one netizen from Miri, who shared the video: “Miri never disappoints, look at this person’s temperament.”

“Incident at New World Mart, Lutong…for safety (by wearing the costume) from being infected by Covid-19,” the Facebook user said.
