KUCHING: The passing of former Head of State and pillar of Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud represents a significant loss for Sarawak, said Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

The Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-FICORD) highlighted Taib’s contributions to Sarawak, stating that he was the “real pillar” behind the strength of PBB, and that under his leadership, the party had achieved significant electoral success.

He said Taib was not only a personal mentor to him but also a visionary leader who played a significant role in the modernisation and development of Sarawak.

“Tun Taib’s passing is a great loss for Sarawak and its people, as well as for our party, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS). He has done so much in modernising Sarawak.

“So we are indebted to his services. It is a great sorrow for the people. But we have to accept that God has taken him back. His vision and discipline have left an indelible mark on us, and we will continue to be inspired by his legacy as we move forward,” he said when met by reporters after his ministry’s Excellence Service Award Presentation held at Imperial Hotel today.
