BINTULU: Policemen patrolling along Jalan Sommerville arrested a teenager on suspicion of drug possession.

District police chief Supt Zulkipli Suhaili said that the 16-year-old boy was arrested around 11am last Thursday.

According to him, police found seven red transparent straws containing crystalline drugs suspected to be methamphetamine weighing 5.2g with a street value of RM900.

He added that the boy, who does not have any criminal record, tested positive for drugs.

Zulkipli said that the teenager will be investigated under Section 39A (1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

For offences under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, an offender can be sentenced to not less than two years’ jail and not more than five years, and whipping not fewer than three strokes and not more than nine.

For offences under Section 15 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, an offender can be fined not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisoned not exceeding two years.
