KANOWIT: A 13-year-old girl died in an accident involving a motorcycle and a four-wheel drive vehicle at Nanga Ngungun/Nanga Ngemah Road (near the Nanga Ngungun Resettlement Scheme) on Sunday afternoon.

Before the accident which happened around 4.30pm, Olivia Serani and her friend Shakira Erica Durin, 16, were on a motorcycle which was travelling from Nanga Ngungun to Nanga Ngemah here.

At Nanga Ngungun/Nanga Ngemah Road, their motorcycle collided with a Toyota Hilux that was travelling from Kapit to Kanowit.

As a result, Olivia landed on the road while her motorcycle crashed into the other side of the road.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said in a statement that Olivia died in the accident because of serious injuries to her head and limbs. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Sibu Hospital’s Assistant Medical Officer.

Shakira, who was critically injured, was sent to Kanowit Hospital for further treatment.

Both teenagers were believed to come from the same longhouse at Nanga Ngungun Resettlement Scheme. Alexson said the 51-year-old Toyota Hilux driver was not injured in the collision.
