Teenagers arrested for performing wheelies

KUCHING: Traffic police arrested two male teenagers for riding their motorcycles dangerously and recklessly on Sunday (Feb 5).

The operation codenamed ‘Op Samseng Jalan’ and led by Insp Ngang Kelimpot and six officers, was carried out around Sarawak Stadium here from 4.30pm to 9pm.

Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the team had spotted two 15-year-olds performing ‘wheelie’ stunts.

Both teenagers were detained under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which provides for a fine of up to RM15,000 and a jail term of up to five years, upon conviction.

They will also be investigated under Section 111 of the same Act for abetting in an offence, which provides for a fine and disqualification of their licence for a term up to five years.

Throughout the operation, police issued 24 traffic summonses for various offences.
