MIRI: Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) together with Sesco Miri went on inspection duties to several premises in Taman Tunku and Morsjaya on Saturday suspected of being used as illegal betting centres. A total 11 premises were inspected.

“Three workers aged between 18 and 43 year-old from the two inspected premises were arrested for questioning during the raid held from 2pm until 6pm,” said a police source.

The team also seized several apparatus and items used in the illegal lottery tickets betting, including cash amounting RM 500, he added.

Power supplies to two of the three premises were cut off by Miri Sesco on the spot.

The premises had camouflaged as doing businesses trading in clothing, handphone or convenient shop.
Deeper inside, the establishments had special partitions which led into rooms where the illegal bettings were conducted.

The case is being investigated under Section 4A (a) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 for assisting in carrying out a public lottery.
