Three arrested for theft

SIBU: A woman and two school dropouts have been arrested for allegedly stealing properties worth some RM6,000 belonging to a house owner here.

Sibu district deputy police chief, Superintendent Collin Babat said on June 11, the owner of a house at Jalan Hua Khiew here was informed by his neighbour that his gate and main door were ajar.

“He subsequently rushed to the house and found several items missing. These include a wooden sofa set, a ceramic table, wall clock, a bicycle, an old television set, electric cable, several pieces of clothes, shoes, a washing machine and refrigerator, ceiling fan and table fan and 30 pieces of belian wood,” he added.

The losses were estimated at RM6,000.

Following a report by the 59-year old victim who is an electrical technician, the police viewed a CCTV footage which led to the arrest of a 40-year old jobless woman and two school dropouts aged 14 and 16.  The police also seized a car from the culprits.

“Our investigation shows that the victim had not been staying in the house for several years as it is not fit for dwelling due to the sinking soil. The last time the complainant went to the house was three months ago,” Collin said.

The three suspects have been remanded for four days for investigation under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and theft.
