Three men rescued from drowning at Sg Rayu, Matang

KUCHING: A leisure activity at Sungai Rayu, Matang nearly turned tragic for three men who came dangerously close to drowning.

They were fortunately rescued by members of the public on Monday (Jan 2).

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victims, believed to be in their 20s, were being treated at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

The incident happened around 2.45pm and firemen from the Petra Jaya station were promptly deployed to the scene, some 26km from the station.

It was reported that the first victim was quickly rescued by the public while the second victim was found unconscious not far from the first victim’s location.

Both of them were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the third victim was found and rescued by the public. He was immediately taken to the hospital by the vehicle of a member of the public.

While on their way, they encountered the Bomba team and stopped them to administer first aid to the victim.

The third victim is still receiving treatment at the hospital.

At press time, the first two victims are reportedly safe while the other is under supervision.
