Tragic end for SAR for disabled man

KUCHING: The search for a disabled man who was reported missing since Thursday came to a tragic end yesterday.

The deceased, 25-year-old Mac Aloysious Gago, was found drowned some 7km from where he was last seen by the Kampung Simpok Bridge in Padawan.

A State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) spokesperson said the body was found at 10.12am by villagers who participated in the search and rescue operation (SAR) operation which entered its second day yesterday.

The remains were handed over to the police for further action.

The department received a distress call at 3.54pm on Thursday pertaining to the incident and firefighters from the Siburan fire station were deployed to the scene.

It was said that the disabled man was last seen clad in just his black shorts. He failed to return home which prompted his family members to contact the authorities for assistance.

A Bomba K9 unit was deployed to the riverbank of Sungai Simpok, while another search team comprised of police personnel and firefighters together with 30 villagers searched for the victim on land.
