KUCHING: The Kuching Amateur Swimming Association (KASA) recently held their Sarawak Age Group Swimming Championship 2023 at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre here.
The three-day event from March 17 to19 saw 302 swimmers from Kuching, Sibu, Kota Samarahan, Miri and Bintulu competing in the meet.
The participants of the swimming championship were divided into five age groups, the Boy’s and Girl’s Under 8, Under-10,Under-12, Under-14, and Under-17.
To gain insight into the competition, New Sarawak Tribune interviewed the swimmers participating in the championship to hear about their personal experiences.

Category B Swimmer from Kuching
After more than a decade of swimming experience, I view this competition as a training ground as I aim to enter the Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) swimming competition in the future.
DONOVAN NGUI MOH ZHE, 16
Category A Swimmer from Bintulu
I have been joining this competition under Sarawak Age Group (SAG) for many years ever since I started swimming, and with this championship I hope to achieve the qualifying time for Malaysia Invitational Age Group (MIAG) Swimming Championship.

I have always been interested in competitive swimming since I was young. With the rigorous training regimen of two hours per day daily, I aspire to compete at national level.

I started swimming when I was 7 years old and after this championship I aim to join the Miri Age Group Swimming competition in my hometown.

Category A Swimmer from Sibu
I joined this competition with the goal to perform my best and break my own record. Eventually I hope to represent Sarawak to compete in the MIAG Swimming Championships.

With seven years of swimming experience, my main focus for this competition is to show my best effort rather than having any specific expectations.
