Three youths who were spotted riding their motorcycles dangerously and recklessly along Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Rahman Yaakub, were arrested by Kuching traffic police last Saturday.

KUCHING: Three youths were arrested for riding their motorcycles dangerously and recklessly along Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Rahman Yaakub in an operation codenamed Ops Samseng Jalanan.

Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah, said police spotted three motorcyclists performing ‘Superman’ stunts on their motorcycles.

“The team detained the riders at the Datuk Amar Abang Haji Suleiman Haji Taha roundabout.

“All of them aged 16, 17 and 20, and their motorcycles, were taken to Kuching police headquarters (IPD) for further investigation under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“If convicted, they can be fined up to RM15,000, sentenced to jail for up to five years as well as face licence disqualification for up to five years,” he said.

In the operation carried out by Kuching traffic police from 11pm on Apr 16 to 4.30am on Apr 17, a total of 17 traffic summonses were issued for various offenses such as riding or driving without a licence, modified exhaust system, no side mirror, registration number that does not follow the rules and non-functioning horn.

Ahsmon pointed out that the operation will be carried out continuously to reduce the accident rate, especially fatal accidents in the district.
