Two landslide scares get firemen busy

A late-night landslide that strikes the back of a room of Rumah Jepriten last Saturday.

KANOWIT: Residents of Rumah Jepriten at Sungai Bejait, Jalan Tada here, were abruptly awakened with a landslide late Saturday night (Nov 6).

A spokesman from the Sarawak Fire Department operations centre said no injuries or casualties were reported in the 11.55pm incident.

Firemen from Kanowit station was despatched to the scene after receiving a distress call pertaining to the incident.

Upon arriving, the team confirmed that the landslide happened at the back of the community dwelling and they installed safety barriers to ensure that no one could go near the scene.

Residents were also advised to be cautious and alert the authorities if they need help.

Meanwhile in a separate incident, Kanowit firemen were alerted of another landslide along the road heading to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ulu Bawan today (Nov 7).

A two-man team was deployed to the scene and advised the public to be careful and not to approach the area.

Both incidents are understood to have occurred due to heavy rain which happened late Saturday night.
