SIBU: Kanowit and Lanang PKR Divisions have lodged a police report, urging Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof to apologise to Sarawakians for his recent misleading statement on the state’s immigration autonomy.

The two divisions also wanted Fadillah to refrain from making such a statement again.

Kanowit PKR Division chairman George Chen said on Wednesday that Fadillah had recently accused that Pakatan Harapan will give up the state’s immigration autonomy should it take over the state government in the next state election which is due in May 2011.

Chen said Fadillah should retract his statement if he cannot show that “the law and the Federal Constitution do not have the necessary safeguards” and therefore “PH can willy-nilly give up” the state’s immigration rights.

He said laws enacted by Parliament and the Federal Constitution cannot be changed by Sarawak State Legislative Assembly.

“Surely Fadillah knows this, so why is he telling Sarawakians that PH will give up immigration autonomy by changing Parliamentary laws and the Federal Constitution when we sit in the state Legislative Assembly?” he questioned.

Besides, he said the state’s immigration autonomy is enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 where no right-minded Sarawakians would give up the autonomy.
