KUCHING: Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar illustrious career in the federal government has garnered him a lot respect in West Malaysia said Money Matters TV host Zahir Kelvin Ong Abdullah.

“When he was Parliament deputy speaker, he held the post without fear or favour. The feedback that I got from many MPs is that Tun had all the parliamentary rules at his fingertips.

“Hence the respect he has in Semenanjung is immense,” said the 59-year-old Sarawakian when commenting on Wan Junaidi’s appointment as the eighth Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri.

Zahir said Sarawakians are filled with a sense of pride in welcoming the new Governor, adding that with Wan Junaidi at the helm, it contributes towards political stability and unity that Sarawak has always enjoyed.

“I see the appointment of Tun Wan Junaidi as a positive one. While the position is largely ceremonial, I believe the role of the Sarawak Governor will provide checks and balances for the state government,” he told New Sarawak Tribune when contacted.
