KUCHING: The United Kingdom (UK) government has expressed its readiness to engage in collaborative efforts with Sarawak, particularly in the realm of environmental sustainability.

Sarawak’s Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni announced this partnership, focusing on green technology and industrial development.

“We want to carry out collaboration, especially in environmental sustainability.

“The UK has helped us draft a law, the Green Economy Ordinance for Sarawak, since 2021.

“Thus, it has produced a Green Economic Policy for Sarawak with the assistance of the UK government’s expertise and grants,” he said.

Dr Hazland said this following a courtesy call by Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the British Minister of State for the Indo-Pacific at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

The meeting took place at Wisma Sumber Alam on Friday, September 8.

He also highlighted the positive impact of such collaboration, pointing out that it encourages foreign investors to select Sarawak as a prime destination for green energy investments.
