KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Sarawak Utilities Ministry has inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) on building an effective ecosystem for the commercialisation of gas distribution.

Permanent secretary to the ministry, Datuk Alice Jawan, said the MOU would provide opportunities for more locals to participate in the sector.

“The MOU will be able to help the state government ensure that the parties involved in dealing with gas distribution are competent and licensed, and that the coordination of gas distribution-related activities is of the highest standards according to the Distribution of Gas Ordinance 2016,” she said after the MOU signing ceremony here.

She also revealed that Unimas was the first party to be appointed by the ministry for the development of gas competency distribution.

“With all the qualified professors and lecturers that they (Unimas) have, we are confident that they will do a great job for the state, to develop all these programmes for our ministry.”
