MIRI: In a joint operation known as ‘Ops Kontraban’ conducted by the Wildlife Crime Bureau (WCB) and the Special Intelligence Investigation Unit, under Bukit Aman’s Internal Security and Public Order Department, contraband cigarettes and alcohol with unpaid taxes amounting to RM 3,616,856.58 were seized here on Wednesday.
According to Miri OCPD, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the operation was carried out in collaboration with General Operation Force (GOF), resulting in the detention of seven men. Additionally, five premises were raided during the operation.
The suspects, ranging in age from 16 to 47 years old, are currently held at the lockup of Miri Central Police Station for questioning.
The case is under investigation in accordance with Section 135 (1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
