SIBU: A total of 387 graduates received their scrolls on the first of the two-day University of Technology Sarawak’s (UTS) 6th convocation on Saturday (March 5).

Speaking at the ceremony, UTS vice-chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid said the convocation was a historical event.

“Even though this is the 6th convocation ceremony for this university, it is the first under the new name University of Technology Sarawak, after we have been upgraded as a full-fledged university on 8th Nov 2021, hence the change of name from UCTS to UTS.”

He added that 59 graduates of 2020 were also attending the ceremony as the previous convocation was held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We all know that virtual is not the same as in-person. Therefore, with strong requests from our graduates, and after careful consideration and with the approval of the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) we have decided to organise this,” he said.
